Century City Conference Centre Hosts Valentine under the STARS 2017 on Century City Square

Century City Conference Centre Hosts Valentine under the STARS 2017 on Century City Square

This February, Valentine under the STARS returned to Century City Square to delight music lovers once again.

Hosted by none other than the multi-talented TV presenter and musician, Katlego Maboe, the highly anticipated open-air concert featured a line up of exceptional local and international musicians.

Backed by the renowned Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Maestro Brandon Phillips, the line-up included:

  • Titilayo Adedokun
  • Ike Moriz
  • Rouchelle Liedemann
  • Riaan Hunter
  • The Grey
  • Lilla Fleishmann

The event was hosted over two nights, which were each fully sold out. Saturday, 11 February was a corporate event for which we welcomed over 700 guests. On Sunday, 12 February, Valentine under the STARS delighted an audience made up of members of the public, as well as a number of guests invited by CCCC.

A Word From The Hosts

Guests began their evening with welcome drinks and canapés in the spacious conference centre lobby before a special address by Joint CEO’s Glyn Taylor and Gary Koetser. The duo welcomed the crowd to the venue with a reflection on a successful opening year, as well as the plans and opportunities that lie ahead.

Mr Taylor noted the growth that had taken place since the previous VUTS event – both in terms of how Century City Square and its surrounds have developed, as well as the way in which Century City Conference Centre and Hotel has flourished since opening a year ago. “We stand here a year later, better and stronger because of you,” he said.

Mr Koetser proudly reported that feedback on both the conference centre and Century City Hotel has been exceptional. Says Koetser, “the attention to detail we focussed on during the build-up phase is really starting to pay off now. People are beginning to appreciate our venue for its ease of use. ”

Celebrating Love, Music And Memories Under The Stars

Kicking off with a grand opening by Brandon Phillips and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, the concert boasted a string of exceptional performances covering everything from chart-topping love songs to moving opera masterpieces.

During the interval, guests were treated to a spread of expertly prepared desserts in the CCCC lobby. The spread included ice cream cones with an array of toppings, cheese boards, puddings and more, with a sure highlight being the chocolate fountains.

After the interval, guests continued to enjoy being serenaded into the chilly summer’s night with the added comfort of blankets and hot chocolate – or wine, if they so preferred.

To further delight our guests, the evening included a surprise giveaway, where one lucky audience member walked away with two tickets to the USA, courtesy of Delta Airlines.

Esteemed guests

A highlight of the evening was welcoming Deputy Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Ms. Tokizile Xasa, to the event.  TV personality, international speaker and businessman, Dr Michael Mol, also dropped in to enjoy a night of great music under the stars.

Behind The Scenes

As always, Head Chef Abbas and his dedicated team worked tirelessly to keep the delicious welcome canapés flowing, as well as the decadent treats enjoyed by our guests during the interval.

Our managers, Stephan Lloyd (Operations Manager, CCCC) and Walda Meyer (General Manager, Century City Hotel), along with their teams, were instrumental in keeping the event running smoothly, from the Conference Centre and Hotel to the Square.

We would like to thank all those who contributed to another memorable event of such grandiose at our venue. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Barbara Lenhard and the Opulent Living Experience team for #VUTS2017, the second Valentine under the STARS event hosted in Century City.
